The man who was killed Friday afternoon in a two-car crash on Route 3 in Belfast in the middle of a snow squall has been identified.

Billy Jo Sherman, 38, of Liberty died at the scene of the crash, according to Sgt. John Gibbs of the Belfast Police Department. He was the passenger in a car driven by Shana Lee Harriman, 32, of Montville, who was driving west by the Belfast Curling Club when she lost control of her vehicle, spun sideways and slid into the path of an oncoming vehicle driven by Terri Curtis, 61, of Belmont.

Curtis’ car struck the passenger side of Harriman’s car.

Gibbs said that weather likely played a role in the crash and that speed is not considered to be a factor. Both drivers are being treated for their injuries at a local hospital.
