Matheu Nelson’s sacrifice fly capped a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning as No. 11 Florida State rallied for a 6-5 baseball victory over the University of Maine to complete a sweep of Saturday’s doubleheader at Mike Martin Field in Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida.

Florida State, which won the opener 16-3, is now 3-0 while the Black Bears fell to 0-3.

In the nightcap, freshman Jake Roper’s grand slam in a five-run fourth-inning rally erased a 2-0 deficit and gave the Black Bears a 5-2 lead in the seven-inning affair.

The Seminoles scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to pull within one and Matt Geoffrion came on to pitch the seventh. But he walked Elijah Cabell to open the inning and Robby Martin’s double to center delivered Cabell with the tying run.

Geoffrion balked pinch-runner J.C. Flowers to third and he scored on Nelson’s sacrifice fly to left.

Trailing 2-0 entering the fourth, Danny Casals ignited the five-run rally with a double and Roper eventually belted his grand slam to left.

Mike Salvatore singled in a fourth-inning run for FSU and the Seminoles crept closer with an unearned run in the sixth on Reese Albert’s sacrifice fly.

Salvatore (2 RBIs) and Martin (RBI) each had a double and a single for Florida State. Ryan Turenne singled twice for UMaine.

Tyler Ahearn picked up the win with one inning of scoreless relief and Geoffrion was tagged with the loss. Bangor’s Peter Kemble and Trevor Delaite pitched the first six innings for UMaine. Kemble allowed four hits and three runs over 3 1/3 innings with three strikeouts before Delaite went 2 2/3, allowing one hit and an unearned run with six strikeouts and a walk.

In the opener, Salvatore, Albert and Nander De Sedas each drove in four runs and Florida State took advantage of 14 walks and six hit batters.

Salvatore homered and singled, Albert had a double and two sacrifice flies and De Sedas had a single and a sacrifice fly. Flowers doubled, drove in two runs and scored four times and Cabell hit a solo homer.

Sardinas had three singles for UMaine and Caleb Kerbs hit two doubles and two RBIs. Cody Pasic had a double.

C.J. Van Eyk pitched five innings of six-hit, two-run ball to pick up the win. He struck out eight and walked three.

Brewer’s Matt Pushard, making his first appearance in nearly a year, allowed two hits and three runs over three innings with two strikeouts and nine walks. Ben Terwilliger allowed seven runs, five earned, and three hits in two innings of work with a strikeout and four walks and Dillon Stimpson allowed five hits and six runs in three innings with a strikeout and a walk.
