A man was rescued from Casco Bay on Tuesday night after he fell into the water.
Firefighters responded about 11 p.m. to the Portland waterfront near Becky’s Diner, where a man had fallen into the water while attempting to cross from the pier to a fishing boat, according to Portland fire Capt. John Brennan.
The man was located beneath the pier, but firefighters were unable to assist him from the top of the pier, Brennan said.
Rescuers entered the bay and swam to the man who was then retrieved from the water, Brennan said.
The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for cold water exposure.
Brennan said conditions were snowy and extremely cold with a strong wind coming from Casco Bay at the time of the incident.
The Portland Police Department also responded to the scene.
