Two Waldo County women were seriously injured Monday afternoon in a head-on collision on Route 1A in Frankfort, police said.

The collision happened at 1 p.m. after Amy Adriance, 40, of Winterport passed a tractor-trailer while traveling north in her 2011 Kia, according to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

After passing the truck, Adriance drifted off the right side of the road, overcorrected and traveled across the centerline into oncoming traffic, according to the sheriff’s office. She struck a 2018 Dodge pickup truck driven by Wendy Fowler, 51, of Belfast.

Both women were the only occupants of their vehicles, which were considered total losses, the sheriff’s office said.

Personnel from the sheriff’s office responded to the scene of the crash along with emergency crews from both the Frankfort and West Frankfort fire departments.

Winterport Ambulance took both women, who suffered what appeared to be serious but not life-threatening injuries, to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, according to the sheriff’s office. A hospital official said Tuesday that both Adriance and Fowler had been discharged. No further information was available.
