The temperature soared to a record-breaking 62 degrees in Maine’s largest city.
National Weather Service meteorologist James Brown said the high temperature Tuesday in Portland smashed the old record for the date of 51 degrees, set in 2005.
In Augusta, the state capital, the temperature reached 55, breaking the old record of 48 set in 2006.
Similar warmth was felt across the region.
In Concord, New Hampshire, the mercury climbed to 59 degrees, but that was well short of the record for the date of 61 degrees set in 1877.
