Aiden McGlone of Bonny Eagle High School in Standish and Thomas Palmer from Thornton Academy in Saco were named recipients of the ninth annual Frank J. Gaziano Memorial Offensive and Defensive Lineman Awards during a ceremony at the Augusta Civic Center on Saturday.
McGlone was honored as the state’s top high school senior offensive linemen while Palmer earned the senior defensive lineman award. The two winners each received a trophy, a leather jacket and a $5,000 scholarship, the largest high school football scholarship of its kind in the country.
Runners-up for the Gaziano Awards were offensive linemen Chase Lamontagne from Kennebunk High School and Zachary Reed of Scarborough High School and defensive linemen Cole Melanson from Leavitt Area High School in Turner Center and Nicholas Mills of Cony High School in Augusta. Each runner-up received a $1,000 scholarship, a trophy and a leather jacket with the Gaziano Awards logo.
