Bangor and Lewiston have built quite a rivalry in recent years in the Class A cheering ranks.
The Rams and the Blue Devils continued that hard-fought competition during Saturday’s Class A North cheering regional championship held at the Augusta Civic Center.
This time, it was defending Class A state champion Bangor that came away with bragging rights — and the regional championship plaque.
Bangor registered 85.6 points on Saturday to eke out a close victory over Lewiston, which finished with 84 points.
Brewer took third with 82.4 points, while Oxford Hills of South Paris (74.4), Hampden Academy (71.3) and Lawrence of Fairfield (67.7) also qualified for the state championship competition scheduled for the same venue on Saturday, Feb. 2.
The Rams, coached by Taylor Clark, Stephanie Crane and Kate Robichaud, took the first big step toward defending their state title with the win. However, the Blue Devils will be secure in the knowledge they have taken home the state championship in six of the previous eight years.
Bangor’s roster includes seniors Natasha Ivey, Alainna Roach and Chloe Woodward, juniors Emily Chappelle, Rebecca Chappelle, Madison Clay, Hannah Dunn, Sydney Latlippe, Kylie Lavoie, Gracie McAuliffe, Hailey Miles and Kelsey White, sophomore Briana Tracy and freshmen Kaydence Lux, Haley Pasternack, Tyniah Robinson and Hailey Tracy.
