A man died in Kittery early Saturday morning after his mobile home went up in flames, according to the state fire marshal’s office.
Firefighters found the man’s body in the bedroom after they knocked down the fire that destroyed the mobile home on Dana Avenue.
Authorities identified the victim as 52-year-old Shaun Flaherty Jr., who lived alone in the home.
Investigators think that the fire started around the mobile home’s kitchen and living room, Steve McCausland, a spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said in a news release. But they could not determine the cause of the fire because of the severe damage to the home, McCausland said.
The fire occurred in a mobile home park and was reported by neighbors around 4 a.m. Saturday.
Flaherty’s death was the fourth death in a Maine fire this year, according to McCausland. Last weekend, two people died when a fire destroyed a home on Brewer Lake Road in Orrington. Earlier in January, a man died during a house fire in North Anson.
