A fire destroyed a two-story residence in Sullivan late Saturday night, but the occupants were able to escape safely.

Sullivan Fire Rescue responded to the fire at 451 Punkinville Road at 11:28 p.m. The building was occupied when the fire started, but everyone made it out of the structure, with no injuries reported.

Sullivan is located north of Gouldsboro in Hancock County.

“The cold temperature always makes it hard to pump water, but that wasn’t a big factor in fighting the fire,” said Lt. Jeremy Ogden, the spokesman for Sullivan Fire Rescue.

The building had already collapsed when fire crews arrived. The residence is considered a total loss.

Ogden said the Maine fire marshal’s office was notified about the fire. Its cause is unknown.

The American Red Cross was contacted to help the homeowners.

Sullivan Fire Rescue was assisted on scene by the Hancock, Franklin, Sorrento and Gouldsboro fire departments.
