A crash in the southbound lane of I-95 between Ohio Street and Broadway backs up traffic Friday morning.

A set of crashes in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 stopped the flow of traffic going through Bangor early Friday morning.

From about 6:50 to 7:10 a.m., three crashes were reported between the Hogan Road and Union Street exits, according to Lt. Andrew Emery of the Bangor Fire Department. Those are exits 187 and 184, respectively.

By 9 a.m., firefighters had left the scene and taken two people to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

Maine State Police are investigating what caused the crashes and did not immediately respond to a request for information

A dusting of snow that fell between Thursday night and Friday morning likely caused the roads to become slippery, Emery said.

“It was difficult [for firefighters] to stand up” on the highway, he said. “This dusting of snow kind of glazed everything over and made them kind of icy.”
