One Kennebunk man who got to know George H.W. Bush pretty well is his barber of 10 years.
Ed Beckett, who works for the Main Street Barber Shop in Kennebunk, said it was always a treat seeing Bush come in to the shop, or in later years, when Beckett would travel to Walker’s Point.
Beckett said during their sessions, Bush would never discuss politics, and almost always talked about his family. He said Bush was always in a happy mood, even toward the end when he had to start making house calls.
He said he will miss his friend, but he knows he is much happier now.
“I’m going to miss him a lot, but I know he’s definitely happy to be with Barbara, you know he couldn’t have done anything more in his life than he could have done, so yeah, I’m really happy I got to be a part of his life,” Beckett said.
Beckett said he will never forget how kind he was, and he wishes more people could act like Bush.
