A South Paris man was charged Friday with drug trafficking and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Josiah Heath, 40, was arrested during a search of his home for drugs, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety. An investigation prior to the search led officials to believe Heath had been selling large quantities of crack cocaine and heroin and that there had been four overdoses at his home this year, McCausland said.

Officials with the Maine State Police and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency worked together in the investigation.

Inside the residence, officials found materials consistent with drug trafficking and seized three firearms and part of another firearm. Prescription pills were also found, McCausland said.

Heath is being held at the Oxford County Jail in South Paris.
