An Addison woman was indicted Tuesday on manslaughter and other charges after she allegedly struck two pedestrians with her vehicle last fall, killing one and injuring the other.

Kayla L. East, 24, was driving a Dodge pickup truck south on East Side Road in Addison on Oct. 13, 2017, when she was distracted by her child, who was riding in the truck, and then crossed the centerline of the road, the Washington County Sheriff’s Department said at the time. The truck struck Trissa Donovan, 42, of Harrington, and Mandy Kane, 38, of Addison from behind as they walked along the road.

Donovan was taken to Down East Community Hospital in Machias where she later died of her injuries, police have said. Kane also was transported to the hospital, but her injuries were not life-threatening.

East was indicted Tuesday on charges of manslaughter, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, operating a motor vehicle after suspension and driving to endanger.
