Maine State Police are investigating the death of a man found hanging in his cell in Franklin County Jail on Monday night, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Stephen Tripp, 35, from Strong died Tuesday morning at Central Maine Medical Center, where he was taken after police found him.
Tripp was arrested last week for gross sexual assault and possessing sexually explicit content of children below the age of 12. State police began investigating Tripp last month after finding sexual images of girls on his cellphone.
State police are working with Franklin County Jail officials to investigate Tripp’s death, according to McCausland.
