President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, fixes his name sign after being sworn in as he appears before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington on Tuesday to begin his confirmation to replace retired Justice Anthony Kennedy.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing before the Senate Judicial Committee got off to a chaotic start Tuesday, as Democrats sought to delay the hearing as soon as Chairman Chuck Grassley hit the gavel and protesters erupted. With the opening statements out of the way, Kavanaugh can expect to be grilled on his views about a slew of issues from abortion to gun control to executive power.
