A Massachusetts driver recently put a new spin on specialty license plates — a do-it-yourself version that required only a pizza box and a marker.

Hopkinton, Massachusetts, police say they found a 2001 Buick century sporting license plates made from a pizza box with the plate number 2JY728 written in magic marker.

For this arts and crafts project, the driver faces charges of operating an uninsured and unregistered vehicle and attaching fake plates, Hopkinton police said.

Hopkinton police offered advice for anyone considering such a DIY project: Don’t try it.

“But if you do, make sure not to use cardboard from a pizza box and magic markers,” Hopkinton police said.
