A Delta airplane that took off from Portland heading to Detroit was diverted Tuesday afternoon to Bangor International Airport after it was discovered the aircraft had a hydraulic problem, an official said.

Bangor police and fire crews were called to airport at around 1:30 p.m. to help with the diverted airplane that carried 72 people, BIA director Tony Caruso said.

“The aircraft landed without incident,” he said.

Caruso did not know how the hydraulic problem was noticed or the extent of the issue, but said the airport maintenance crews would look at the plane, a Bombardier CRJ 700, to see if the problem could be fixed in house.

“It’s being towed to the gate right now” to unload passengers, Caruso said.
