Officials identify man who died in Pownal fire

POWNAL, Maine — Barry Cain, 65, died Friday morning after a fire destroyed his home in Pownal, the Maine state fire marshal’s office reported Friday.

The fire broke out about 1 a.m. in an apartment where Cain reportedly lived above a garage on Elmwood Road, according to a news release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Investigators continue to attempt to determine the cause, but they suspect that the fire was related to power outages caused by a winter storm that swept through Maine on Thursday and Friday.
