This Election Day, the Bangor Daily News has joined over 250 newsrooms around the country to monitor and investigate reports of voting problems or irregularities at the polls. This project, called Electionland, has been organized by the news nonprofit ProPublica.

Here’s how it works: Voters in Maine are encouraged to report incidents — voter intimidation, long wait times, disqualifications, machine breakdowns, etc.:

— Text “Electionland” to 68966, or

— Fill out the online reporting form.

In addition to these direct reports, Electionland will monitor social media posts and search data in real-time to discern if voting problems are occurring in Maine.

All of these tips, once verified, will be passed to BDN journalists. Editor Jackie Farwell and reporter Jake Bleiberg are the BDN’s point persons on the project.

The goal of the project is to ensure everyone’s right to vote is preserved. Your report can make a difference — don’t hesitate to text or write Electionland if something seems amiss.
