BRUNSWICK, Maine — Two Bowdoin College students have contracted mumps and a third case is suspected, the Bowdoin Orient reported Friday.

Dr. Jeffrey Maher, director of health services for the college, notified students in an email Wednesday that fewer than 10 students at the college are not vaccinated, for religious, philosophical or other reasons, or have no vaccination record on file, the student newspaper reported. Those students are “self-isolating” as recommended by the Maine Center for Disease Control.

A Bowdoin spokesman was not immediately available for comment Friday morning.

Bates College has had eight confirmed cases of mumps since October, all students who have since recovered, Bates spokesman Kent Fisher said Friday. The college reports no active cases now.
