WISCASSET, Maine — A Wiscasset man’s overdose death in August has led to the arrest of a woman who is accused of bringing heroin from Massachusetts to Maine for resale in the Wiscasset area.

Ashley Dowdy, 28, of Wiscasset faces one count of Class B illegal importation of scheduled drugs (heroin) and two counts of Class B unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs (heroin), according to a release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office detectives and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency personnel arrested Dowdy at her home Thursday.

An investigation after the man’s death “pointed to Dowdy” as the man’s heroin supplier, according to the release.

“Investigators discovered Dowdy was actively supplying heroin to the Wiscasset area and was making frequent trips to Massachusetts to purchase her heroin for resale,” according to the news release.

More arrests and additional charges are expected.

Dowdy remained at Two Bridges Regional Jail Friday afternoon, held on $10,000 cash bail.

The Maine attorney general’s office and Maine State Police assisted in the investigation.
