BROOKS, Maine — A local man will spend a year in prison after pleading guilty last week to terrorizing a woman.

Richard Peavey Jr., 41, came to police attention on May 20 after the woman called Waldo County police dispatchers to report he had threatened to kill her. The woman told Deputy Cassandra McDonald of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office that Peavey was a long-haul truck driver who was due back to Brooks sometime that day.

The woman said that the two had argued over the phone and Peavey threatened to “run his tractor-trailer into the house and kill everyone in it,” according to the police report filed at Waldo County District Court. The woman also shared threatening text messages she had received from Peavey, and told the deputy she was worried for her safety when he came home.

Peavey had been convicted in Rockland of violating a protection order in 2008.

He pleaded guilty to Class C domestic violence terrorizing with a prior conviction and was sentenced to 12 months in prison.
