Investigators probe fatal house fire in Mexico

MEXICO, Maine — A house fire left one man dead and another seriously injured in Mexico on Saturday.

Dean Watson, 45, was killed in the fire. His father, 83-year-old John Watson, escaped the home without injury, McCausland said. Thomas Brown, who is in his 50s, is being treated at Maine Medical Center in Portland for smoke inhalation.

Brown was an upstairs tenant at the house, according to the Sun Journal.

The fire was reported around noontime at 6 Brown St. in downtown Mexico, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

“Firefighters arrived at the scene within minutes to find heavy smoke and fire at the two-story house,” McCausland said. “Fire marshals say there were no working detectors and the fire started on a rear porch. The cause continues to be investigated.”
