SKOWHEGAN, Maine — Host Skowhegan advanced to the semifinal round of the Cal Ripken New England regional baseball tourney for ages 11 and under with a 12-5 elimination victory over Oxford, Connecticut, Tuesday.

The other Maine team in the tourney, Andy Valley, suffered a 13-3 loss in three innings to Freetown-Lakeview, Massachusetts.

In the other two games, Marlboro, Mass., eliminated Straham, New Hampshire, 12-2 in four innings and Chelmsford, Mass., edged Pepperell, Mass., 10-8.

In Wednesday’s semifinals at 5 p.m., Skowhegan will take on Marlboro at 5 p.m. and Freetown-Lakeville will play Chelmsford. The winners vie for the title at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Ben Morgan recorded a pitching win Tuesday to help Skowhegan advance. Hunter McEwen and Quincey McCray sparked the offense with three singles each and Cooper Bardwell doubled.

Ethan Coleman recorded two singles for Oxford while Anthony Laoretti and Justin Black each singled.

Cole Taylor picked up the win for Freetown-Lakeview and was backed up by Carter Bailey, who notched two doubles and a single. Brendan Flanagan chipped in with a double and single and Drew Dixon singled twice.

Austin Ringuette, Brady Keefe and Bruce Atkinson each singled for Andy Valley, which has players from Norway, South Paris, West Paris, Oxford, Bethel, Woodstock, and Poland.
