FARMINGTON, Maine — A longtime Maine basketball coaching icon has stepped down from his position at Mt. Blue High School, according to the Lewiston Sun Journal.

Gavin Kane, who has amassed over 500 victories, has resigned from the girls head coaching position at the Farmington high school, according to the Sun Journal.

According to the report, Kane did not give specific reasons for stepping down but said parental issues and player commitment were sources of frustration.

In addition to Mt. Blue, Kane has coached at Rangeley, Spruce Mountain and Dirigo high schools, with a big part of his success coming at Dirigo with the girls program, which he led to six state championships.

Kane also served as an assistant with the University of Maine women’s program when Cindy Blodgett was the head coach.
