A woman was injured when a trailer hitch broke her car's windshield Tuesday in Masardis.

MASARDIS, Maine — A Sinclair woman was injured Tuesday when a trailer hitch went through the windshield of her car, Maine State Police Cpl. Dennis Quint said in a news release.

The incident occurred around 2:20 p.m., when Danielle Lavway, 48, was traveling north on Route 11 in her 2014 Toyota Corolla and a trailer truck was traveling in the opposite direction.

As the two vehicles met, the truck kicked up a hitch that was laying in the roadway from another truck, causing the hitch to fly through the air and into the windshield of Lavway’s vehicle, according to Quint.

The hitch hit Lavway in the shoulder.

Lavway refused an ambulance but was treated at The Aroostook Medical Center for her injuries.

The truck driver likely did not realize what happened, according to Quint. The incident remains under investigation.
