Police arrest two after standoff at Bridgton motel

BRIDGTON, Maine — Police said they were called to the First and Last Motel on Wednesday after reports of an altercation with some of the tenants.

When police returned on Thursday to serve an arrest warrant, two men reportedly barricaded themselves inside one of the apartments.

After a standoff with police for hours, both men were arrested and taken to the Cumberland County Jail.

Police said one man is facing assault charges for an incident that happened here last night, and both are facing charges for barricading themselves.

Police said John Siciliani and his father, John Connoly, barricaded themselves inside the First and Last Motel, and both men are related to the motel’s owners.

Police said they arrived about noon to serve an arrest warrant for Siciliani, who is charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.

Police said that weapon was a 2×4 he allegedly hit a tenant with last night.

Pamela Steeves, who was visiting her daughter who just moved to the motel, said that both men last night appeared drunk and were yelling racial slurs at them. She said one man also took out a gun and fired it toward her husband.

“All I could see was a gun and a scope and that was off the porch, and I was like, ‘He’s got a gun, get in the house, get Tatyana, get everyone in the house,’” Steeves said. “He was saying that there was an invasion and he said, ‘I’m going to take care of this right now.’ He shot the gun at my husband.”

Steeves said her husband was not hit.

Police are still investigating if a gun was involved.

Both men came out peacefully just before 5 p.m. after hours of negotiations with tactical units, and Bridgton’s police chief said he’s happy the standoff ended peacefully.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and both men could face additional charges after police talk to witnesses about what happened.
