More than 3,400 customers in Aroostook County lost power Tuesday afternoon as thunderstorms made their way across northern Maine.

Workers with Emera Maine were sent out Tuesday afternoon to figure out what caused a power outage for more than 3,400 customers in Caribou, Washburn, Perham, Ashland, Masardis, Oxbow Plantation, Mapleton, Portage, Nashville, Hamlin, Fort Fairfield and Limestone.

“They will pinpoint the problem, make any necessary repairs and get all customers back on line safely and as quickly as possible,” said Emera Maine communications specialist Bob Potts in an email update.

Power was expected to be restored by 3:30 p.m. and thunderstorms were thought to be a factor in some of the outages.
