FREEPORT, Maine — A 34-year-old man was arrested Saturday afternoon on Litchfield Road after allegedly firing a rifle several times when an argument with a family member escalated.
Linwood Grover of Freeport was charged with aggravated reckless conduct, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, criminal threatening, assault and violation of conditions of release as a result of the altercation, according to Acting Police Chief Susan Nourse of the Freeport Police Department.
Grover was visiting with family when an argument with a relative escalated into a fight, “and then Grover got a .22 and shot it several times,” Nourse wrote in an email Tuesday morning.
The rifle belonged to a resident of the home, according to Nourse, and Grover is prohibited from possessing a firearm because he has been convicted of a felony.
No injuries were reported.
After police were called, they found Grover had left the residence. Grover was arrested Saturday evening in Bath and, after evaluation at a hospital, was taken to Cumberland County Jail in Portland.
Grover remained in Cumberland County Jail on Tuesday morning held on $2,060 cash bail. A court date was not immediately available.
