AUBURN, Maine — Police are looking for vandals who targeted an Auburn yacht club.
Peter Perry is checking on his equipment, after vandals sent nearly 50 canoes and kayaks out on Taylor Pond.
“Boy, they had a lot of time on their hands,” Perry said.
Police said they also broke into the buildings at the Taylor Pond Yacht Club.
“It doesn’t appear like anything was stolen at this time, but they did release some fire extinguishers in the buildings while they were in there,” Auburn police Lt. Rick Coron said.
Perry said it’s a shame to see this happen to such a family friendly club.
“They do a lot of teaching for the sail boat instructors who come out here. A lot of the kids come out and hang out and do the sailing lessons,” Perry said.
Police said as far as they know none of the canoes or kayaks were damaged. They also said they don’t think this will happen again in the future.
“We’ve never had any major issues out there because they’re a well-respected club, so now that it’s open we don’t feel that the issues are going to be there anymore,” Coron said.
“It’s fun for us because we live close by, so it’s kind of like having a summer camp for ourselves but it’s not very far away from home,” Perry said.
