BUCKSPORT, Maine — A man from Penobscot is dead after a head-on collision on Route 1 Thursday night, according to police.

Stuart Leach, 25, was traveling south when his pickup truck collided with a northbound tractor-trailer driven by Brent Theriault, 41, of Eddington, Bucksport police Chief Sean Geagan said.

The crash happened around 9 p.m. Thursday, according to Geagan.

The chief said road conditions were not a factor, because rain had not yet started to fall in the area at that hour.

Theriault was not seriously injured, while Leach was pronounced dead at the scene, Geagan said.

The crash remains under investigation. Bucksport Police Officer Robert Findlay is the primary investigator.

Ellsworth police and Maine State Police assisted at the scene, along with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection as Theriault’s rig leaked fuel on the road.
