CARIBOU, Maine — St. Patrick’s Day could prove to be unlucky from a weather standpoint for folks in Aroostook County.

A low-pressure system has the potential to bring half a foot of snow to far northern portions of the state Thursday into Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

The highest accumulations are expected to fall in Aroostook County and northern Somerset, Piscataquis and Penobscot counties, according to the weather service.

The Bangor area and coastal sections could receive some wet snow but are expected to see mostly rain, according to the weather service.

Portions of the western mountains of Franklin and Oxford counties could see accumulating snow as well, the weather service reported.
