CARIBOU, Maine — A wintry mix is expected on Wednesday for portions of northern Maine, the National Weather Service reported Tuesday.

The wintry mix is possible for parts of far northern and eastern Aroostook County, according to the weather service, while southern Aroostook and northern Penobscot counties could see ice.

The combination of that precipitation is expected to make Wednesday morning’s commute a slick one.

While only up to an inch of snow is expected, a trace of ice is expected as well. The weather service has posted a winter weather advisory for Aroostook County and northern portions of Piscataquis and Somerset counties.

The Bangor area and points east were expected to see a chance of rain, but no snow or ice, according to the weather service.
