Vox has a helpful video explaining the origin and history of the Zika virus, which earlier this month was deemed an international health emergency over concerns it causes birth defects.

The person had recently visited South America, said Dr. Siiri Bennett, the state epidemiologist, adding that there is no risk to Mainers, and that the mosquito that transmits the virus is not found in the state.
