WESTBROOK, Maine — A 37-year-old Windham man has been indicted for manslaughter and allegedly operating under the influence in connection to a July 2015 motorcycle crash in Westbrook that killed a South Portland woman and seriously injured the man accused of operating the motorcycle.

Brenton L. Blais was indicted on Class A and Class B felony counts by a Cumberland County grand jury earlier this week.

The crash, reported at about 8:30 p.m. July 25 on Pride Street, killed 35-year-old Jennifer Lavigne, a passenger on the motorcycle operated by Blais.

According to subsequent media reports, police said Blais and Lavigne were not wearing helmets. Police told The Forecaster at the time that Blais lost control of the motorcycle and hit mailboxes and a driveway culvert, throwing both from the motorcycle.
