MEDWAY, Maine — A Hermon woman died instantly in a single-vehicle accident Sunday morning on I-95 south of Medway, according to the Maine State Police.

Sandra Gifford, 49, of Hermon was driving a Subaru Legacy when her car left the road into the median and overturned several times before coming to rest on its roof, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Gifford’s husband Kevin Gifford, 55, was a passenger in the car and was taken to Millinocket Regional Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, McCausland said late Sunday afternoon.

McCausland added that it was not immediately clear why Gifford lost control of the car.
