PORTLAND, Maine — The discovery of a bullet in an Old Port hotel room Saturday morning is under investigation by Portland police.

The bullet was found in a Marriott Courtyard room on Commercial Street. Police said two people were in the room but not injured. The bullet appears to have been shot outside the hotel and broke a window before going into a room.

Police did not receive any calls of a shot being fired overnight, when police believe the shot was fired. Investigators are hoping to find surveillance video or witnesses in order to determine what precipitated the shot.

A window on the front of the hotel was broken. Police do not believe the two people inside the hotel room were targeted. Anyone with information is asked to contact Portland police at 874-8575.
