SHERMAN, Maine — The Aroostook County sheriff confirmed Sunday that “an incident” occurred in Sherman Saturday night but declined to provide further details pending further investigation.

“We are aware there is widespread information circulating to the contrary, but there was not a shooting in Sherman this evening,” Aroostook County Sheriff Darrell Crandall said in a post on social media.

On Sunday, Crandall did confirm an incident with a “person who is in crisis [and] we have them.”

He added there is no threat to public safety.
