BRUNSWICK, Maine — Police are searching for two teenage girls, one from Bath and the other from Brunswick, who left the area early Sunday morning in a car belonging to one of the girl’s mothers.

The girls, a 14-year-old from Bath and a 16-year-old from Brunswick, are believed to be driving a black four-door 2014 Toyota Camry with Maine license plate 7421TD.

Police listed the teens as missing with the National Crime Information Center database.

The girls apparently left the area early Sunday morning, Bath police Lt. Robert Savary said Tuesday. Later that morning, police in Cambridge, Massachusetts, contacted Bath police to say the vehicle had been involved in a hit-and-run crash, which was recorded on video, before driving away from the scene.

“That was our last known point of reference for them,” Savary said. “Now we’re in a wait-and-see mode as to when they pop up. It’s just a matter of time.”

According to Savary, the Bath teen indicated to her mother’s boyfriend that she wasn’t happy in Bath. Police believe they may be headed to South Carolina, where the 14-year-old has contacts.
