HOPE, Maine — A 34-year-old Rockland man with a felony record is behind bars after police say he posted a photo of himself on Facebook holding a gun.
Zachary H. Woodbury was arrested Wednesday and charged with illegal possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. He was taken to the Knox County Jail and is being held in lieu of $500 cash bail. He made an initial appearance Friday in Knox County Unified Court where Judge Susan Sparaco kept bail at $500.
According to a police report filed with the court, a Maine Drug Enforcement Agency agent saw a photo on Woodbury’s Facebook page in May showing him holding a gun. The officer was aware that Woodbury had multiple convictions including felony ones for burglary, theft and stealing drugs.
Woodbury was wearing a “bandit-type” mask in the photo, according to the affidavit.
When the officer questioned Woodbury about the gun, he allegedly said he did not own the gun and was unaware he could not possess one.
The gun was a Ruger P95 pistol, according to the affidavit. A search was conducted of his residence but no guns were found. Police said they were able to track the gun to another person and confirmed it was the one that had been used in the photograph.
Assistant District Attorney Christopher Fernald had sought $1,000 bail, citing the lengthy record of Woodbury that goes back to 1996.
