ROCKLAND, Maine — Bail was set Wednesday afternoon at $50,000 cash for an Otisfield man who police said confessed to sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl last month in Camden.
Judge Charles Dow set the bail during the initial appearance for Nicholas Emerson in Knox County Unified Court on two counts of gross sexual assault and five counts of unlawful sexual contact.
Emerson, 28, is next scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 18. He was represented at the hearing by attorney-for-the-day William Pagnano, but Emerson said he would apply for a court-appointed lawyer.
According to the affidavit filed by Camden police Detective Curt Andrick, Emerson confessed to the sexual assaults while being driven from Augusta to the Knox County Jail on Saturday.
He also admitted to the offenses while on a recorded telephone call with his girlfriend from Camden, according to the affidavit.
