OLD TOWN, Maine — Maine State Police on Tuesday continued to investigate the deaths of a man and woman found inside their apartment in Old Town on Monday night, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

McCausland said the man who died has been identified as Mark Savage Jr., 33, and that the woman is believed to have been his roommate. Investigators hope to confirm her identity Wednesday.

Autopsies conducted Tuesday by the state medical examiner’s office show no signs of foul play. Toxicology tests have been ordered, which may assist the medical examiner to determine whether the deaths were drug related, McCausland said.

McCausland said the bodies were discovered by Old Town police, who went to the apartment on Water Street on Monday night for a welfare check on the couple, who failed to meet up with an acquaintance earlier in the day.

The two were heard from on Sept. 1. The apartment was locked when police arrived, and they obtained a key from the landlord to gain entry.
