MANCHESTER, New Hampshire — Sam Travis hit an RBI single in the 10th inning to plate Manuel Margot as the Portland Sea Dogs defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4-3 in an Eastern League game at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium on Wednesday night .
The Sea Dogs (51-86) got the scoring started in the top of the first. After a leadoff single by Margot and a sacrifice bunt by Tzu-Wei Lin, Travis hit an RBI single.
New Hampshire (65-69) answered in the second inning. After a leadoff walk to Matt Newman by Aaron Wilkerson, Jorge Flores later delivered a two-out single.
Wilkerson allowed one earned run on five hits in five innings, walking three and striking out four. He stranded six Fisher Cats on the bases over the first three innings.
Taylor Cole was effective as well, holding the Sea Dogs scoreless for five straight innings. In the seventh, after striking out Carlos Asuaje, Keury De La Cruz hit a solo homer to right-center to give the Sea Dogs a 2-1 lead.
The homer was Cruz’s team-leading ninth of the season.
Dustin Antolin relieved Cole and the Sea Dogs loaded the bases against him, eventually adding another run on a sac fly by Margot.
Kyle Kaminska entered the game to begin the sixth and worked into the ninth but after allowing a one-out single, Shane Opitz hit a two-run homer to make it 3-3.
Margot led off the 10th with a single off Wil Browning, moved up on Lin’s sacrifice, and rode home on Travis’ hit with first base open.
Kyle Martin (2-0) closed out the game, but not without tension. After back-to-back, one-out singles, Martin struck out Jack Murphy but walked pinch hitter Derrick Chung to load the bases.
Emilio Guerrero grounded out to end the game.
