BUXTON, Maine — Ten adult dogs and eight puppies have been surrendered due to inhumane conditions, according to the Buxton Police Department.

The animal control officer received a complaint regarding the condition of the animals on Aug. 26 and raised concerns after visiting the residence, police said.

The situation reportedly stemmed from the number of dogs kept at the home and their continued breeding because of a lack of spaying or neutering.

The owner surrendered the animals to the Police Department and the dogs since have been released to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.
