DAY BLOCK TOWNSHIP, Maine — The Maine Forest Service is asking for the public’s help with its investigation of three suspicious wildfires last week in Day Block Township, Washington County.

“We offer rewards for information leading to arrest and conviction,” Regional Forest Ranger Jeff Currier said Monday.

Anyone with information is asked to call the forest service arson hotline at 800-987-0257.

Investigators will follow up on all tips, Currier said, and information will remain confidential.

The fires in question began about 1 p.m. June 18 along a stretch of Route 9 just west of Wesley. Currier said he believes a human element is involved because the fires began about the same time, were fairly close together and occurred on both sides of Route 9. The fires all were brought under control by that night, but one burned “quite aggressively” and covered 5 acres.

Currier said Monday that rangers are hoping someone might have seen or heard something useful to their investigation.
