ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine track and field team has three student-athletes competing in the 2015 Outdoor Track and Field East Regional May 28-30 at Jacksonville, Florida.
Robyn McFetters of Barrington, Rhode Island, will compete in the hammer throw, Jake Leithiser of Old Town will run the 800 meters, and Alexander Parenteau of North Yarmouth is entered in the javelin.
McFetters won the hammer throw at the 2015 America East Championships and the 2015 New England Championships. She was fifth in the ECAC Championships. McFetters had a school-record throw of 60.50m at the 2015 Penn Relays, which broke the Maine school record.
She is scheduled to compete at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Leithiser set a personal record in the 800 at the 2015 LSU Alumni Gold meet with a time of 1 minute, 49.34 seconds. It ranks as the second best time in Maine history. He placed second at the 2015 America East Championships with a time of 1:51.01.
He is scheduled to compete at 7:15 p.m. Friday.
Parenteau recorded a throw of 66.04m in the javelin at the IC4A Championships to place third. The throw was the second best javelin throw in Maine history. He placed second in the 2015 America East Championships with a throw of 59.86m.
Parenteau is scheduled to compete noon Friday.
Luke Morrill of the University of Maine capped his collegiate career by earning a spot on the America East Baseball All-Championship Team.
The senior third baseman from South Thomaston went 5-for-9 with two doubles, an RBI and a stolen base in the Black Bears’ two tournament losses.
Pitcher Cameron Stone of league champion Stony Brook was named the Most Outstanding Player and was joined on the all-tourney team by teammates Bobby Honeyman, Daniel Zamora and Robert Chavarria along with Conrad Wozniak, Connor Hax and Jake Barnes of the University of Maryland Baltimore County and Hartford’s Sam McKay and Trey Stover.
Husson University in Bangor has announced its 2015 football schedule, one that includes nine games.
Coach Gabby Price’s Eagles kick off the season at home vs. Alfred on September 5, then they travel to Alfred State on Sept. 12 in their other nonleague game.
Husson opens its Eastern Collegiate Football Conference scheduled Oct. 3 with a home game against Castleton State. It also will have home contests against Becker (Oct. 17), SUNY Maritime (Oct. 31) and Mount Ida (Nov. 14).
The Eagles’ road games will take them to Anna Maria (Oct. 10), Gallaudet (Oct. 24) and Norwich (Nov. 7).
Wyatt LaPage of Maine Maritime Academy in Castine has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/Capital One Academic All-District One Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country Team.
The Marine Transportation Operations graduate maintained a 3.97 grade point average, serving as the Cadet Chief Master and men’s cross-country team captain in 2014.
LaPage, who finished 32nd among 104 runners at last fall’s North Atlantic Conference championships, owns the school record for fastest 8K.
The two-time NAC All-Academic Team selection was named 2014-15 Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year.
