PORTLAND, Maine — A woman was found dead early Friday morning in the water along the East End walking path, according to police.

The woman’s identity is unknown, and her body was taken to the medical examiner’s office in Augusta for an autopsy, according to a statement from Portland police.

The body was found a short distance from 58 Fore St. around 6:10 a.m., the statement read.

Initial investigation indicates the death does not appear to be suspicious.

The woman is of Asian descent, is between 50 to 60 years of age and was wearing a blue denim jacket and teal colored jeans, the statement said.
