PORTLAND, Maine — City police are searching for a man wanted on a probation violation, according to a statement released Friday.

Around 7 a.m. Friday, officers were dispatched to Sheridan Street for a report of a suspicious vehicle. When police tried to stop the vehicle driven by Jamie Vandegraaf, 23, of Scarborough, he fled.

The statement did not disclose what Vandegraaf is on probation for.

Shortly after, Vandegraaf apparently tried to exit the moving car on Adams Street and was struck by his own vehicle but not seriously injured, the statement said.

Police searched the area, but it is believed Vandegraaf found a taxi and escaped to South Portland.

Vandegraaf is a white male standing 6 foot 3 inches tall and was last seen wearing a white T-shirt. Anyone who sees him should contact Portland police at 874-8584 or their local police department.
