BELGRADE, Maine — An automobile repair shop on Dustin Drive was destroyed by fire Monday afternoon, according to Belgrade Fire Chief Dan Mackenzie.

The blaze at Ray’s Auto was reported shortly after 3 p.m., according to Mackenzie.

No vehicles were inside the shop at the time of the fire, Mackenzie said, and while several propane tanks exploded inside the garage, no nearby properties were in any danger.

Mackenzie said the building was completely engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.

It was not clear whether the owner of the shop had insurance. The state fire marshal’s office is investigating a cause and attempting to determine where the blaze originated.

Mackenzie said crews had the fire under control in about 45 minutes.

Firefighters from Belgrade, Oakland, Rome, Mount Vernon and Sidney responded.
