BANGOR – Alan D. Oxley Sr., 63, passed away unexpectedly on March 21, 2015. Alan was born June 27, 1951, in Bangor, the son of Edward and Joanne (Dorr) Oxley.
Alan was a kind and compassionate man with many different talents. In his early years he joined the U.S. Air Force Reserves and gained employment as an air traffic controller for the Bangor International Airport at the then Dow Air Force Base. He later went on to work in the family business, Dorr’s Equipment Company, as the Parts Manager. His many years of experience in the tractor industry led him to create his own business, Tundra Mowing, which included bush mowing and rototilling. He was an accomplished carpenter having built several houses and was especially proud of his skill at finish carpentry. He loved everything outdoors and some of his happiest memories came from the numerous years he lived on Hermon Pond.
In addition to his parents, Alan is survived by his two daughters, Laurie Martin and husband, Tony, of Hermon and Ashley Oxley of Bangor; his longtime and special friend, Heather Pelkey of Bangor; brother, Steve Oxley and wife, Sylvia, of Carmel; sister, Katherine Goodine of Bangor; and many nieces and nephews. Alan was predeceased by his son, Alan Oxley Jr.; sister, Bonnie Oxley; and stepchildren, Rebecca Pelkey and Larry Pelkey Jr.
A celebration of Alan’s life will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2015, at The City Side Restaurant in the banquet room, 393 North Main St., Brewer. Those who wish to remember Alan in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt. Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401.
